Etymology of rasa: Around the time that Western woolen textiles were brought to Japan, Japanese people heard the Portuguese names “raxa” or “raixa” and took it as “rasa.” , and the word “Rasa” was used widely thereafter. (From “Japanese history told by wool”)

A chapter in the history of Takaoka Co., Ltd.

THE ROAD TO ESTABLISHING A STORE

In the 1900s, Takaoka Shoten was blessed with human resources and its business performance steadily increased.
At the same time, the size of the store grew, and he ended up owning his own store.
With a solid foundation, Takaoka Shoten was able to safely weather the recession.

The first generation, Kakunosuke, had been trained as a master and apprentice from scratch, and not only had he developed a good eye for people, but he also believed that the relationship between master and servant was based on trust.

Therefore, trusted personnel often met the expectations of their owners and made the store more popular.
As Takaoka Shoten developed, it moved from its first location in Koraibashi to Shinsaibashi-suji Hiranocho Kitairi East Side, then to Hiranocho Shinsaibashisuji Higashiiri North Side, and its structure grew larger.

However, something unexpected happens here.
At the time, the store was a rented house, but one day the landlord unilaterally asked him to move out.
Due to the busyness of business, the surrender was postponed. Exasperated, the homeowner resorts to force and removes the tiles from the kitchen roof.
It started raining at the wrong time, and those who were eating were on the verge of being forced to eat mud.
After this incident, Kakunosuke decided that he needed to buy land and a house in order to do business with peace of mind, so he immediately started looking for a suitable location.
In 1902, he purchased an affordable house on the east side of Shinsaibashi-suji Awaji-cho Kitairi, renovated it, and moved there, and this was where Takaoka Shoten’s business base was finally established.
